This express design competition has not stopped its expansion since its creation in 2012, and there are increasingly more host countries, apart from having an extensive participation. What started as a local initiative to promote young talents and to provide contestants with a platform to face a hypothetical scenario in the professional world has become an international event.

After sixteen editions, the competition has consolidated itself as a source of creativity in the bathroom world and as an opportunity offered by Roca to young designers to develop a product design and to enhance their creative skills.

More editions have been celebrated in a year of international expansion: Russia, United Kingdom, Portugal, China and Oman, joining Spain, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong, which had hosted the event in previous years. There were eight editions in 2017 with a total of 1,796 participants. The great success of the first edition in China has to be highlighted, with the participation of 310 contestants. On the other hand, the contest has become a reference point in design competitions in Spain, with over 500 participants in its simultaneous edition in Barcelona and Madrid.

One of last year’s novelties was the introduction of the We Are Water Foundation Award. Sustainability is a priority for Roca and proof of this is the research and resources devoted to achieving a more rational use of water. For these reasons, apart from the first, second and third prizes of the One Day Design Challenge, the We Are Water Foundation decides to present, providing the projects comply with the requirements, a prize to the project that highlights the value and commitment to sustainability, as the saving of water is something that needs to integrate the bathroom space.
