Poland 5th Edition

28th November 2024

Objective: To design innovative concepts for bathroom products.

Topic: The specific brief for the object to be designed will be announced on Thursday 28 November 2024.

Context: Our aim is to involve the young design community in the search for original and innovative, yet simple solutions that will improve the user's interaction with bathroom products, both in private and public spaces.
Another objective is to provide a platform to encourage, facilitate and concentrate creativity in a display of fast and intense work focused on the bathroom.

This year's edition of the Roca One Day Design Challenge will take place in a hybrid format:

  • On the premises of the University of Warsaw Library: at ul. Dobra 56/66, Warsaw
  • In the digital space: from any location - after fulfilling the conditions of participation described in these rules.

Participants can choose how they want to take part in the competition – on-site or remotely.

Registration: Participants can register at www.onedaydesignchallenge.net until 7.00 p.m. (UTC+2) on 27 November 2024.

The number of people who can enter the competition is limited. Once the number of registered participants reaches 400, registration will be closed and the order of registration will be decisive. In connection with the above, the Organizer reserves the right to shorten the registration period due to reaching the maximum number of participants.

Participants may register online on the Organizer's website by declaring their participation in the competition on site or remotely. The Organizer reserves only 200 places for people who wish to participate in the competition onsite. Participants who register online will have priority on the day of the competition. The Organizer may also allow people to register at the onsite event without prior online registration, but only in the absence of a previously registered participant till 10.00 a.m.

The Organizer may cancel the event at any time in case of force majeure (circumstances beyond the Organizer's control that prevent the organization of the event). In such a case, the Organizer will immediately inform participants of this decision by e-mail and by posting a notice on its website.

When registering, participants must complete a registration form with the following information:

  • Name and surname
  • University or company
  • Address (street, building number, apartment number, city, postcode)
  • Contact number and e-mail address
  • Date of birth

When registering via the official Roca website www.onedaydesignchallenge.net, participants must submit all required information before _7.00 p.m. (UTC+2) on 27 November 2024. Registration will not be possible if any of the required information is missing.

Each person may only submit one entry and once the registration number has been confirmed,it cannot be changed. Duplicate entries from the same person will be deemed invalid.


The competition is open to students and young professionals with Polish or Ukrainian citizenship who were born after 28.11.1994and until 28.11.2006Participants may enter the competition individually or in groups of up to 2 people, provided that all members meet the above eligibility requirements.

The following are not eligible to enter:

  • Winners of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize and the We Are Water Foundation prize in previous editions of the competition.
  • Employees of companies belonging to the Roca Group and their close relatives up to the 4th degree of consanguinity.
  • Winners of all editions of the international Roca jumpthegap® competition.

Logistics: On 28 November 2024, at 9:30 a.m., the exact project topic will be announced in Room 316 (3rd floor) of the University of Warsaw Library Building and on the Roca Polska Instagram and Facebook account (@roca_polska) and will be published on the website.

Participants who will take part in the competition on site, i.e. in the building of the University of Warsaw Library in Warsaw, must confirm their presence at the competition reception desk located in front of the library entrance. Participants will receive special badges that will allow them to enter the library and receive refreshments during the competition. The reception desk will be open from 8:00 a.m. on the day of the competition.

The time for participants to prepare their competition projects is set for the hourly interval between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on November 28 2024.

All participants will submit their finished projects via the website https://www.onedaydesignchallenge.net/en/contests/poland/poland-2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 28, 2024, regardless of the type of participation (onsite/remote).

On the aforementioned website, users will find a tab (icon) "Poland 2024", which allows them to submit projects. After clicking on the submission icon, new window will asking asking for the username and password generated when registering for the competition. Only after entering the correct username and password, participants will be able to submit project documents.

On 28 November 2024 at 4:30 p.m.,the jury will meet to select the winning projects of the Roca One Day Design Challenge Poland edition. The jury will also select the first, second and third runners-up in case one of the winning projects does not meet the requirements of these regulations. The jury will deliberate jointly and reach a decision unanimously.

On 28 November 2024 at 8:00 p.m., the jury will announce the winners of the first, second and third prizes. The announcement will take place in Room 316 (3rd floor) of the University of Warsaw Library building and via the Roca One Day Design Challenge social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook) on the Roca Polska account under the name @roca_polska.

The jury will assess the creativity and originality of the projects and their feasibility, as well as the clarity, readability and graphic design of the presentation.

Due to the current climate situation and the Roca One Day Design Challenge’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, all projects submitted must consider sustainability and water conservation to be eligible for the awards.

The first place winner will receive a prize of 3,000 EUR.

The second place winner will receive a prize of 2,000 EUR.

The third place winner will receive a prize of 1,000 EUR.

If the winner (first, second or third place) is a duo registered in the competition as a team, the financial prize will be divided equally between each of the awarded participants.

The jury reserves the right not to award any of the above prizes if the the entrant’s work is found to be plagiarised or otherwise infringes the copyright of a third party.

The jury also reserves the right not to award any of the prizes mentioned if the entry does not meet the requirements of the sustainable development concept and/or is not of sufficient quality.

The jury also reserves the right to award the prizes ex aequo. In this case, each of the winners who wins a prize at the same time as another participant will receive the full amount of the prize.

The results will be announced by the jury immediately after the deliberations, which will last until 20.00h on the day of the competition. The winners will be informed by e-mail about their win, and the verdict will also be announced live, by reading out the winners at the competition venue. In order to receive the title and the prize, the contestant must confirm that they meet the conditions of the competition, i.e. age (date of birth) and place of residence, as stated in the registration form. Verification may be done by (a) connecting online with the Organizing Committee and presenting an identity document during the video call (in case of remote participation) (b) presenting an identity card or passport to the Organizing Committee’s representative and giving agreeing to have a photograph taken of the document. If, within 10 days of receiving notification from the Organising company, the Participant fails to complete the above formalities to confirm the information provided in the form, and if, as a result of the verification, the information provided is found to be false or does not compy with the terms and condidents of the event, the Participant will be automatically disqualified and the prize will be automatically awarded to the next finalist. The ID cards and passports received by the Organizing Committee will be used exclusively for the purposes described above, in compliance with strict technical and legal confidentiality measures for the period required by law.

The above-mentioned prizes will be transferred to the bank accounts indicated by the winners.

The prize will be paid in PLN after conversion at the NBP selling rate on the day the prize is awarded.

The prize amount is subject to taxation in accordance with the general rules applicable in Poland.

If, at any time prior to the payment of the prizes, the Organisation determines that a winning design does not meet the terms and conditions set out in these regulations, because it is not an original design or for any other reason, the design in question will be disqualified and the subsequent winners and runners-up will advance one place in the winners' rankings. If a prize cannot be awarded because there are not enough alternate winners, that prize will be deemed not to have been awarded.

Presentation: Participants may use any manual or digital tool, 2D, 3D, scale model, photography, collage, etc. to prepare their projects. However, the concepts must be described and illustrated on no more than two A3 sheets.
Projects should be submitted via the website, quoting the participant's registration number.

The deadline for submitting projects is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 28 November 28 2024.

To submit a project, participants must register in advance before the deadline. Each registered participant or group can only submit one project.

Projects will be identified by a registration number; participants must not include any personal data in the project that would allow them to be directly identified.

Each participant or group should submit 2 digital files with the following specifications:

  • A horizontal PDF file with up to two A3 sheets which must contain: Title of the project, image of the design, description in less than 150 words (minimum font size 24 pt) and no more than 1,500 Kb.

  • A horizontal JPEG file with these specifications: Title of the project (no more text will be admitted), the most representative image of the project and no more than 1,500 Kb.

Example of .jpeg file:

  • The PDF and JPEG files should not exceed 1,500 Kb each.
  • The name of both files should be the registration number only without any additional characters.
  • Although not mandatory, the registration number may also be included in the images of the project.

Projects should preferably be presented in English, but Polish will also be accepted.

Entries that do not meet the above-mentioned requirements will not be considered by the jury.

Please note that the jury will only use the PDF document for evaluation purposes. The JPGE document will only be used for communication and divulgation purposes.

Other aspects:
The idea of this event is to stimulate the creativity of the participants during the competition. Therefore, the projects submitted must be original and not previously used for any other purpose.

Submitted projects must consist of a realistic object with a good design, taking into account functional criteria, in line with the competition theme announced by the Organizer and feasible with the technologies available on the day of the competition.

The intellectual property rights of the submitted projects belong to their authors. Roca Sanitario, S.A. shall have preferential rights for a period of 1 year to enter into an agreement with any of the participants in the competition regarding the rights to use the submitted projects.

By participating in this competition, all participants (including the winner(s) and finalists):

  1. grant the companies of Roca Group the right to reproduce, distribute and make publicly available their projects submitted to the competition, in all countries of the world and for the maximum period permitted by law in each of these countries, in order to promote their projects in general publications and/or specialist publications, as well as on Roca websites, editions and publications, and on the competition website. The companies of Roca Group will have the right to transfer to third parties, without the prior written consent of the authors, the right to reproduce and publish the projects submitted by the authors to the competition, within the territorial and temporal limits it deems necessary, for the sole and exclusive purpose of promoting their projects worldwide; and
  2. authorise the companies of the Roca Group to publish any photographs that may be taken during the competition, in any medium, both in photographic and video format. This authorisation is deemed to be granted worldwide and for the maximum period permitted by law.

Any questions or disputes arising from the interpretation of these rules will be decided by the jury in accordance with the provisions contained herein. Any matter not expressly covered by these rules will be decided in accordance with the principles of fairness. The decision of the jury is final.

By participating in this competition, you agree that your personal data will be included in a file belonging to Roca Sanitario, SA (Spain) Avenida Diagonal 513, 08029 Barcelona - Spain, which will be responsible for the processing of this filein order to manage participation in the competition, in accordance with the privacy policy available at https://www.roca.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Roca Sanitario S.A. may share materials and data with Roca Polska Spółka z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością for purposes related to the organisation and execution of the Competition.

For any other purpose, the express consent of the participants is required.

Participants agree that their personal data (mobile phone number and WhatsApp username) may be used to communicate with participants during the competition. In order to improve the communication and integration of the participants, the organizer will create a group in WhatsApp, whose members will be the participants of the competition.

Participants may exercise their rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition by writing to Roca Sanitario SA. The exercise of the rights of cancellation and opposition will result in the cancellation of the participant's registration in the competition, as this data is necessary to manage the participation in the competition.
Participation in the competition implies acceptance of these rules, which must be confirmed by ticking the appropriate box on the registration form.
