Domaine de Boisbuchet, a meeting point amidst design, nature, and education

A profound education is essential to face your professional future and with the Roca One Day Design Challenge we wish to support that formation by contributing to the practical understanding of students and young professionals. It is for that purpose that Ahmad Alkattan, winner of the Master Design Challenge, received a summer course at the prestigious Domaine de Boisbuchet as part of his prize.
Located close to Poitiers in the middle of the French countryside, this is an international center for design, architecture, and applied arts celebrating this year its 30th anniversary. Its founder, Alexander von Vegesack created this Centre international de recherche et d’éducation culturelle et agricole (CIRECA) as a nonprofit organization running Boisbuchet’s international workshop programme, which actually started in cooperation with the Vitra Design Museum.
With the aim of being a meeting point for design, creativity, sustainability, and education, Domaine de Boisbuchet holds different summer workshops every year, led by architects, artists, and designers from all over the world and offering practical courses with a learning by doing processes. These one-week courses focus on topics as diverse as glass, ceramics, sustainable design, color, democratic design, the future of food, jewelry, and many more.
Some of the renowned experts who have hosted these workshops are the designers Ruedi and Vera Baur, Sabine Marcelis, winner of the Wallpaper* magazine Designer of the Year 2020 prize, the furniture designer Jaime Hayón, Shigeru Ban, Patricia Urquiola, and Dunne & Raby, among many others. During one week, participants learn the processes and techniques from the most acclaimed designers and to spend time and connect with an international crowd of other passionate individuals. Thanks to Roca, this will be the opportunity Ahmad is going to enjoy this summer: a course he can choose from those over 20 workshops being offered this year in order to delve into those aspects of design he finds most interesting.
We at Roca are proud of this contribution to the education of the winner of the Master Design Challenge and we are convinced that Boisbuchet’s community and spirit along with the know-how of their workshop tutors offer a truly unique creative experience.
