Introdução
On 2nd April, Roca One Day Design Challenge held its 6th edition in Portugal, this year with a special online format due to the current health situation. Over 400 participants were challenged to come up with innovative ideas for the bathroom space following a brief given at the start of the day.
They were asked to design elements for installing in the bathroom of a shared apartment, adding features or functionalities that make life easier for its users.
After reviewing all entries, the jury decided to select Olaris as the winner of the contest. The jury chose the project because of the maxim "less is more" is well applied to this washbasin, that allows multiple users in a very democratic way. Its design captivated the jury in an unanimous way. The project was an idea of Rosana Sousa and Sofia Vieira.
The second prize was awarded to Hide n'share by Mariana Amaral and Marta Prata, students at Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. The jury praised the project for its concept articulated with the space, the versatility of the solution, material innovation (bamboo/sustainable natural material), good communication of the proposal and the good relationship between form and function.
The project Levita, created by João Martins (industrial designer at Flama) and David Taipina (currently working at De La Espada) was awarded with the third prize. The jury highlighted the good communication of the project. For them, the function was clearly identifiable, original and a good bet on the market. Good design combined with health in terms of hygiene.
