OMAR ALAOUI

Profile

Born in Dakar on 16 February 1954, he spent his childhood in Casablanca, where he attended Lyautey secondary school.

Coming from a family of developers, he was immersed from a young age in an environment where he rubbed shoulders with numerous architects such as Messrs, Azagury, Zevaco, and      Tastemain, among others; this undoubtedly awoke his passion for architecture.

In 1973, with his baccalaureate in hand, he flew to Paris        and landed up at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts (UP6), at a time that still cherished the noble resolutions ensuing from the events of May 1968. There he was an enthusiast of the studios of the big   names in architecture such as Castro, Buffi, Grumbach, and Alexandroff. On his return to Casablanca, he performed his obligatory community service working on the reduction of the     shanty towns of Ben M'sik.

In 1982, he opened his first architectural office and designed the first modern building on Avenue Moulay Youssef in          Casablanca for the African Alliance.

In 1984, he set up Quadra with the late Elie Azagury.

This partnership proved to be a great learning ground for Omar Alaoui.

1984 also saw his collaboration on major projects, such as the Bank Al Maghrib in Agadir and Casablanca.

The partnership was to last more than 11 years.

It was punctuated by numerous study trips around the world and by visits to great artists including CESAR, ARMAND, and VENET.
